Sophia’s First Easter

Well, a couple weeks ago was Sophia’s first Easter, and a fun Easter it was! We had about 10 cousins from New York come down to visit during their spring break, so my Nanny had a houseful.  It was agreed upon by everyone that we’d have a low-key Easter…so beach it was!  We all met at Nanny’s church on Easter morning for Easter mass.  We went back to Nanny’s house for everyone to get changed into their beach gear and see what the Easter Bunny left for Sophia at Nana and Pop’s house (yes, the Easter Bunny visited Sophia at…

Sophia’s First Trip to the Beach

Cesar and I have been wanting to take Sophia to the beach for a while now.  But until yesterday, it just hadn’t happened yet.  Last summer, Sophia was only a couple months old, and we didn’t want to bring her when she was that young.  Then, it was way too cold for a few months (you know, like…in the 60s!).  And after that, we’ve had something going on every weekend.  Finally, a nice day coincided with a Saturday that we had nothing going on, so to the beach we went! When we got there, we put Sophia in the sand…

The past few months…

Well, hey there!  It’s been a little while, huh?  Well, I really have no excuse other than that life just got in the way over here.  Strange how that happens!  I guess I have a lot to catch you up on…you’ve missed a lot. I’ll do a quick little run through of the past few months. Sophia’s First Halloween The weekend before Halloween, we wanted to take some fall pictures of Sophia, so we took her to a local church that had a pumpkin patch, gave them a donation, and snapped away.  We got such cute pictures!  For Halloween, Sophia…

Sophia’s shoe collection

I have to admit.  My 5 month old is way more fashionable than her momma.  It’s hard to resist, though.  I mean, there’s nothing that doesn’t look cute on her.  Nothing that makes her stomach stick out or her butt look big (except for that dang diaper!).  I am embarrassed to admit (or, at least that’s what I tell everyone) that Sophia takes up more closet space than Cesar and I do. As if baby clothes weren’t cute enough, usually I just happen to walk through the baby shoes section and, crap!, how’d those get in my cart!?  Oops.  I…

Sophia 365

A few days after I had Sophia, my mom mentioned that it would be cool to take a picture of her every day for her first year of life on the same blanket.  And, well, what do you know?  I actually thought that was a great idea to document her growth day by day.  So, when she was 5 days old, we started this tradition, and I am excited to say…I haven’t missed a day since! It’s crazy looking at all these pictures.  Every day, it doesn’t seem like she is getting any bigger.  But looking back at the first…

Sophia likes apples!

We’ve been giving Sophia “real” food for about two weeks now. Week 1 was rice cereal, week 2 was bananas, and week 3, as of yesterday, was apples. She has loved everything we’ve given her so far! Next week will probably be green peas (on the list of “safest” foods to give small babies). I love peas, so I crazily assume Sophia will automatically love them too. That’s the way my mind works. Plus, I can’t wait to take pictures with peas all over her. I know that might be weird, but she really makes a mess, and rice cereal,…

Sophia getting her ears pierced

Since Sophia was born, Cesar has been ready to get her ears pierced. In Venezuela, they pierce baby girls’ ears before they even leave the hospital. When I told him that is not normal here, he was a little surprised. Sophia’s pediatrician will pierce ears, but they won’t do it until they are 6 months old. We really didn’t want to wait that long because by the time she’s that old, she’ll have a lot more control of her hands and will be able to mess with them. So a few weeks ago, off we ventured to the mall to…

Sophia’s first experience with “real” food

At Sophia’s 4-month checkup last week, the doctor said we should start her on food sometime in the next few weeks. She said to try giving her rice cereal for a week, then start introducing one new fruit or vegetable each week after that. On Tuesday evening, we decided to let her try a little bit of rice cereal for the first time. I opened the box, and while I was trying to pour the recommended “approximately 1 tablespoon” for the first-time feeding, I proceeded to pour about two cup’s worth in a one-cup bowl. That extra cup ended up…

Saturday = Game Day

Saturdays in our household mean one thing…game day. We wake up in the morning, shower, and as quickly as we can, change into our Gator garb (although, I’ll admit, sometimes it’s hard to decide what to wear because of the abundance of orange and blue in our closets). Even Sophia has a whole Gator wardrobe to choose from. This Saturday started out as a typical Saturday during football season. We slept in until 10am, got ready for the day, then laid around and flipped back and forth through about four football games we found on TV. Later in the afternoon,…

Welcome to “My Sweet Little Family”

Five years ago, I was a junior in college with a fairly new boyfriend and a party to go to every night. If you had told me that five years later, I would be settled down, married to my college sweetheart, and the mother to a beautiful little girl, I’d say you were nuts. At 20 years old, that kind of life was just not in my five year plan. I always figured I’d have a great career out of college, be married at 30, and have 2.5 kids by age 35. Crazy how love changes things. I’m Amanda. After…
